Oranges & tahini breakfast bowl

July 29, 2019 by Ariel 2 Comments

My new obsession is those fancy breakfast bowls we can all admire on instagram.  It’s not something new, I’m just late to the party.

Hours and hours “wasted” or “invested” looking at those edible art pieces until finally finding the motivation to make one.  This is a savoury version with a creamy and garlic infused polenta dressed with green onions, Italian parsley, a sunny side up egg, grilled shiitake mushrooms & plantains.  To complete the look, you top it with an oranges & tahini dressing that has a hint of harissa, soy sauce and honey.

The black sesame seeds are optional but they look pretty sooo… the choice is yours.  Enjoy!

Vegetable Broth

February 10, 2018 by Ariel Leave a Comment

I keep a lot of food scraps in my freezer.

Most of them are vegetables, fresh herbs and egg shells because there’s so much you can do with those and it’s almost a blasphemy to throw them out when you spent your hard earned money buying them.  It also goes with my “no waste” and “everything should be make from scratch” mentality because it’s very rewarding to create basic staple foods instead of buying them at the grocery.  This vegetable broth is a great example of “food recycling” and I really hope you’ll get the chance to try it and make it your own.

Plus, who doesn’t like to know that every pennies spent on veggies will go that much further and you’ll end up having a delicious and personalized broth ready to use in your future creations.

Unicorn Meat Stuffed Bell Peppers

February 14, 2016 by Ariel 2 Comments

UnicornMeatStuffedPeppers04

This is a nice recipe for all your meat lovers, vegan and vegetarian hater friends out there.

We all know a few, those people who absolutely despise tofu and would never indulge in a nice tofu anything even if their lives depended on it.  It will be able to fool any of those harsh critics and amuse them by the thought of eating unicorn meat.

Make the test, challenge one of your buddies and let’s see if they are able to taste this awful tofu they are so scared of.

Spinach & Tomato Galette with Hard Boiled Eggs

January 18, 2016 by Ariel 1 Comment

SpinachTomatoGalette05

It was my first time making a galette of any kinds and like the girls from Food52 said in their video for the NY Times, making a galette is super easy and it’s one of those meal where you don’t really need a recipe and, once you understand the principles, and/or you already have your dough recipe ready, it’s only a question of filling.

A few days ago, without any recipe but with a head full of ideas, I gave it a shot.  The dough came out hard and cracky like I wanted and although it was a “win”, I promised myself to make a different crust for each future galettes because… well… they are worth it!

I sincerely hope you get around to try this one.  We ate it as a breakfast with a hard boiled egg but by all mean be creative and eat it for lunch and dinner as well.

Healthy Chicken & Carrot Bowl

April 15, 2015 by Ariel 1 Comment

FINAL1

I wasn’t sure how to call this one.  Is it a soup? Is it a bowl?

Since I didn’t make a “bowl” category, this went in the soup section.  Searching for something easy to make, filling, healthy and super delicious?  …Or, like me, you just came across a BIG bag of carrot at the grocery and you need to use it asap?

FINAL3

The recipe calls for carrot “noodles”… to make them, use your hand grater and like if you were to remove the first layer of skin, continue grating more and more of your carrot till you arrive at the core.  Personally, I don’t use the core for “noodles” because the taste is a little too strong in my opinion but by all mean, save the planet, don’t be picky like me and use the whole thing.  *^_^*

Hope you enjoy this recipe,

Bon Appétit! 🙂

Marinated Cauliflowers & Tomatoes Appetizers

It’s one of those recipes that will make you look like you actually took time to think about your “concept” when it fact it was the easiest and…let’s say it… laziest recipe ever 😛 lol!

If I may suggest, serve the whole thing right on the baking sheet, for a rustic look, and add some chopped cilantro or basil as a little happy green colour to your presentation.
