Crispy Cheesy Polenta Stuffed Poblano Rings

June 21, 2017 by Ariel 1 Comment

SoCal is a great place to find premium Mexican products and I couldn’t helped myself to stock up on delicious poblano peppers.  I used to grow them in my garden (back in the days where I didn’t travel so much because pepper plants are by far my favourite plants to grow) but they never came out as big and spicy as the one you find in California.  Apparently, the more sun engorged the pepper plant is, the spicier it’s pepper will be.  I learned this, the hard way, the first time buying some, when we briefly lived in San Diego.

Clearly, they aren’t even near as spicy at other peppers like the jalapeños or habaneros but they still got a nice mild kick to them.  When ripen to their fullest, they turn to a nice bright red and called Ancho peppers, often ground in to powder.

Cloud 9 Eggs with a “Garlicy” Roasted Tomato

January 22, 2016 by Ariel 2 Comments

Cloud9Eggs02

Such an easy and interesting recipe the Cloud 9 eggs.  A leaky yellow ready for you to dip your toast in and a fluffy, almost like a perfect cloud textured egg white is my second favourite way to eat eggs after being poached.

So either you’re searching for a new fun way to jazz up your mornings before work or to impress a conquest… This neat little trick might make you look more skilled in the kitchen than you actually are.

Enjoy  *^_^*

“Healthy” & Tasty Cheese Sticks!

May 8, 2015 by Ariel 2 Comments

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Coming from a cheese sticks fanatic (that’s gonna be Max), these are the good stuff.

I started craving cheesy straws when Max and I met about 8 years ago.  Growing up, it’s not something that was made by either my mom or grand mothers and I don’t think anybody in my family had/has a recipe to make them.  Which make today kind of “special” because I’m writing history!  This delicious, and fairly simple recipe is going to be archived forever and probably added to my future cookbook because it is just plain awesome and FAIL PROOF!  …..don’t we just love those fail proof recipes right?

Anyways, like I mentioned, I live with a cheese sticks addict.  So far gone in his addiction, that it took 5 batches of these babies to have enough left over the next day to take photos.  For a moment, I thought these would never make it on the site because we kept eating them the second they came out of the oven.  Luckily, last time, I was able to snap a few shot before they disappeared.

The inspiration for this recipe comes from my mother in law’s personal recipe collection and since it really has a special connotation for Max, I decided to involve him a little bit more in to the process as you’ll be able to judge by the photos.

At least 100 different recipes later, we had it!  Crunchy and cheesy enough to pass the Max test and surprisingly “healthy” enough for me not to freak out every time I eat 4-5 back to back.

We hope you’ll enjoy this recipe, make sure you follow the quick 4 rules below and then add your own touch to make them even better.

Enjoy!

Ricotta Orange, Cardamom Pound Cake

March 25, 2014 by Ariel 2 Comments

Ricotta_Orange_Cardamom_Pound_Cake_1

Ohhh pound cakes…  It’s so easy to do and so comforting.  Before this one, I had never made pound cake myself but I always bought slices at the cute little coffee shop down the street.  Some people call it pound cake, other bread.  As far as I’m concern, I could easily put it in the same family as the banana and walnut bread or even the Anastasia bread I made last year.

Although the only difference is that this batter create a much softer cake/bread compare to the two other ones.  It has the feeling of a little pillow in your mouth, thanks to the ricotta and the added egg white.

I hope you’ll also enjoy this orange and cardamom mix.  It’s a new obsession of mine (I seem to develop obsessions pretty easily).  I recently made a tapioca pudding flavored with orange blossom flower and cardamom and it was out of this world!  Definitely a match of flavor to remember for future recipes.

On this, enjoy this soft and silky ricotta, orange & cardamom pound cake with a nice cup of tea as a fun afternoon snack or as a desert topped with ice cream!

Have a great Tuesday everyone 🙂

PS:  You can even toast it and add butter on it.. it’s divine! 😉

A day at the Jean-Talon farmer’s market, in images….

June 2, 2013 by Ariel 6 Comments

JeanTalon_01

After yesterday’s post, I thought it was only normal to show you a bit more about this amazing farmer’s market in Montreal called the Marché Jean-Talon.  There is quit a few farmer’s markets around the city but it is one is by far my favorite.  I love to just go walk around to look at all the organic fruit stands, the plants and flowers stands and talk to the farmers about their passion and their products.

Everybody is always so nice and so open to discuss cooking and educate you on the different products and recipes you can do with their products.  During the summer, the market is enormous because the whole structure is open and you have sellers on the inside and the outside of the market smiling at you and inviting you to taste their fruits and veggies.

These photos are covering maybe 20-30% of the beauty of the market and I’ll keep taking new photos next time I’m in the area to show you more of it…  For the moment, I hope you enjoy this trip at the Jean-Talon market in Montreal…

Breakfast Tart

May 13, 2013 by Ariel 2 Comments

BreakfastTart01

Hey Foodies!

Wow it’s been a while since my last post.  The worst thing is, I have been shooting a lot new recipes for this site but I never got around to take my time to come here and post them.  My life have been a roller coaster lately and it was hard to even come here and blog you something interesting to read with each of the recipes I shot.  My online business took an unexpected turn and what looked like the biggest drama of my life, ended up being the best thing that could have ever happened to me.  I guess nothing happened for no reason in life but the little stressed out Ariel wasn’t able to write or think about anything fun for you guys although I cooked and baked a LOT during this very stressful time.  I’m so glad it’s over now…

On a more delicious note….  One sweet fan sent me a few cooking gear for my birthday in March and I have been dying to trying them out.  One of them is a super adorable tart pan from fat daddios and since I was drooling over all the delicious tarts that you can see on foodgawker, I absolutely wanted to try to make my own so here it is!  My first basic and delicious breakfast tart.

The whole concept is very easy and extremely versatile.  You can basically stuffed the tart with anything you would like and enjoy it either as breakfast or do like me and make a dinner/breakfast (I love to do that).
