April 18, 2015 by Ariel Leave a Comment

I made this tea blend thinking I would use it in my future baking projects (which I’m sure I will at one point) but up to date, I’ve been drinking it everyday!

If you’re a cardamom fanatic, this is for you 🙂

Uncontrollable cough an itchy throat? Here’s a few homemade remedies that might do the trick.

November 3, 2013 by Ariel 2 Comments

arielrebel_sickface

The Cold & Flu fairy came to see me about a week ago and brought an amazing gift witch resulted in me being sick for the past week!  What started like just a little bug that I thought was going to last a day, ended up becoming an uncontrollable cough that wakes me up at night and bothers me in my daily routine.  I can even say that I started a resistance to the DayQuill and NyQuill because even when taking those meds, my dry and itchy throat is still there and there is not much I can do….

…or is there?

Taking a ton of medication is not my thing.  I will, if it’s absolutely necessary, but even taking an Advil or anything of the sort when I have a headache annoys me.  I’m all about simple and natural remedies but I do understand that real chemicals are sometimes required.  Although today, I’m gonna be your guinea pig and test out a few hopefully delicious homemade remedies.  I hope you’ll find this post entertaining, interesting and informative.

Remedy 1 – Honey, Lemon, Cinnamon and Cloves tea.

This is actually the first thing that worked the best for my dry cough around the forth and fifth day of sickness.  I always keep a cup close to me and drink it when I need it.  The benefit effects of honey, cinnamon, cloves and lemon for the flu symptoms have been proven many times, so obviously this has to work.  You can buy a “all prepared” version at the pharmacy but personally, I find they always taste weird so instead I created my own.  Here’s my recipe… in a big tall cup I add:

2 big cloves

1 tablespoon of non pasteurized honey

1 stick of cinnamon, slightly scratch with a knife or a fork

1 tablespoon of lemon juice (not from concentrate)

2 cups of hot water hot water

Remedy 2 – My homemade Spiced tea blend.

Homemade_spicetea

For the past few weeks, this homemade blend has replaced my daily soy latte chai tea.   It’s DELICIOUS and i’m addicted to it…  In bonus, it help relieve some symptoms of the cold and flu!   In the early days of my sickness, this was my saver…  Just make sure to add a bit of honey in your cup to help bring out all the delicious and spicy flavors while suiting your throat.

1 tablespoon of rooibos tea

1/2 teaspoon of Schezuan peppercorns, coarsely crushed

1 teaspoon of black peppercorns, coarsely crushed

1 teaspoon of whole cloves, coarsely crushed

2 cinnamon sticks, coarsely crushed

1 teaspoon of dried sprearmint leaves

1/2 teaspoon of whole green cardamom pods, coarsely crushed

1 teaspoon of chamomile flowers

How to prepare Matcha Tea

January 17, 2013 by Ariel 1 Comment

I’m obviously not an expert at preparing matcha and I realized that when I shot those pics, I didn’t even prepare it the right way. lol  You should be seeing a much bigger mousse on the top of the tea plus my cups are really far to be the right size compare to the regular matcha bowl so the quantity showing in the photos is not accurate to the indications of this post.  So instead of explaining you in my words how to prepare it and taking the risk of giving you false information, I found some extremely good info on yuuki-cha.com and this is what I’m presenting to you today.  In this post, you’ll be able to find the method of preparation of usucha (thin matcha) and koicha (thick matcha).  There are also other slightly different variations of preparing usucha and koicha that you may have learnt and enjoy using.

If so, please feel free to use that method instead.

Why I decided to drink Matcha Tea everyday

January 15, 2013 by Ariel 8 Comments

Have you ever heard of Matcha tea?  It’s a cancer-fighter, fat-burner, Cholesterol reducer and much more amazing tea!  The “magic” power of the delicately selected and grown matcha leaves other green teas FAR behind and if you’re not already drinking some every day yet, you have to start now!

Since I started drinking matcha tea everyday (and sometime more than once a day) I have noticed how much I’m feeling much more energetic, I also sleep better, feel happier and I’m doing a lot more goodness to my inside body that you couldn’t imagine.  If you’re not convinced after reading all the arguments and facts about matcha that I will be listing in this post, you’re a lost cause… 😛

Two Tones Swirl Earl Grey “Biscuits”

September 13, 2012 by Ariel 8 Comments

I’ve been debating the fact of calling them cookies or biscuits but after researching online, I think the final texture of these are closer the traditional biscuit compare to the cookies just because they are very soft and moist on the inside with a crunchy outside…  Not too sweet, just the way I like it and perfect to go with a good tea or a glass of milk.

Since my Anastasia Bread, I really started enjoy cooking with delicious teas and I think I will keep going with my experimentations.  Hope you will like these biscuits.

What Sodium Carbonate can do for you…

A delicious ramen bowl have been on my mind for days and my last experience, months ago, in New York is starting to feel like a distant memory.  I’m salivating to the thought of a delicious, silky and salty broth and the chewy texture of homemade noodles but my palate can barely grab on to this souvenir as days goes…
